Physical properties for 2nd grade

Hello everyone. My name is Ruth Rodriguez and I currently student teaching 2nd graders. I am trying to create a 5E lesson plan about how things can be done to material such as cutting, folding, sanding, and melting to change its physical properties. Can you all please give me any ideas for the EXPLAIN/ELABORATE portion of my lesson? Thank you so much!

Here are a few general ideas:

For Explain, students could

  • work on an interactive notebook activity
  • share their results from the explore portion of the lesson 

For Elaborate, students could

  • prepare a cartoon to represent the concept
  • state a hypothesis now that they know more about the basic concept of physical properties (here is a 5E lesson that uses this)
