Using the 5E’s to structure any unit is beneficial. If I introduce a topic that the students haven’t learned and I allow the students to engage with each other is important because it allows the students to ask questions and share ideas. Allowing students to use their prior knowledge to connect their past learning to the present learning helps them understand better. Allowing the students to explore helps them investigate the problem. The students may be confused but it is important to let them explore and figure out a solution on their own. Explaining the unit to the students can help them understand how to investigate the solution. This gives students the opportunity to learn the new concept. Allowing students to explain themselves by using models and hands-on activities is important. In order to elaborate the lesson it is important to let the students share their ideas and thoughts either as a whole class or even with their group or partner. For the evaluation portion, assessing the students on their understanding of the lesson is important. If the students aren’t understanding then they can be taught a different way to help them understand. If the students aren’t understanding then the objectives haven’t been met. The 5Es can help students feel more motivated and want to engage more in the lesson if it is followed step by step.
