Using Flip for an asynchronous program?

Hi all. I'm hosting an online, asynchronous engineering design challenge this month, and I'm using Flip as a way for kids to share what they make. Flip is a simple, free app that uses short-form video to make sharing online safe and family-friendly. You can use the app or web version.

The challenge involves inventing a way to study creates in the deep ocean. (You can see the activity here: https://www.sciencefriday.com/educational-resources/looking-for-life-in-the-deep-ocean/) I want kids to join Flip and create videos about what they designed. To keep it safe, I've asked parents to register before they get the access code for the group. (The form is here: https://secure.everyaction.com/Csnm6TCvF0a5lokinlCXGg2) Then they'll get an email with a link to the group and information on how to create an account, log in, and use Flip.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? Any tips? I'm trying to think of the best ways to encourage parents and kids to use the app not just to share what they invent but to interact with others in the group.

Thanks!

Sandy
