Using the 5Es to Teach Seasonal Changes , a third article written by Peggy Askbrook speaks about using engagement, exploration (asking a question about why a season is), explanation, elaboration and evaluation for younger students to learn. Using this method allows the student to observe what they already know about the seasons and then expand upon them by using tools to help them measure temperature and provide characteristic about the season and/or seasons. They can provide valuable information about what they already know about summer, fall, winter and spring. I liked the part of the actual lesson, where the questions was raised, “Are all sunny days also hot temperature days.” This type of question allows for thinking on the part of the student and opens the forum for a great discussion on how even if is is sunny it could also mean that it is not hot outside.
