How do teachers raise awareness or concern for an environmental cause without creating fear for the children? Many issues are extremely damaging and their harmful effects should be known. What are some ways to encourage students to be proactive rather than fearful of what may happen?

This is a great question to be considering before you begin working in a classroom. I have thought about his before and my advice would be to introduce students to environmental needs through service learning projects. For a field day you could have your class travel to a park and volunteer to either pick up trash or plant new flowers. These would be hands on activities that not only explain what needs to be done but how to do it. This would be a great supplement to any lesson on environment preservation.
