Water, Water Everywhere Collection

Love this collection!
After looking through this collection there are several things that I found helpful and interesting. I really loved that some of the artifacts in this collection include activities that you can actually do with young children to help support understanding. Also, I found the journal article titled, "Examining Language To Capture Scientific Understandings: The Case of the Water Cycle" very interesting because it talks about a very important concept in engaging students to help their understanding and participation in scientific discussions. This can be used to help teachers use language to build scientific understanding. "Drip Drop Detectives: Exposing The Water Cycle" is a good book to use to guide instructional planning for an inquiry lesson on the water cycle. This book also includes activities to be done after examining each stage of the water cycle. Including artifacts that focus on the concept of human impact on the environment is another good concept to include within a unit lesson on the water cycle or water in the world because sometimes students may have a misconception that our environment is not affected by our actions and lifestyle. Overall, this collection seems very useful and informative on the concept as well as for teaching strategies and activities.
Perspectives: The Myth of Catering to Learning Styles

A great read
I really enjoyed this article. It helps people understand that even though the theory of multiple learning styles sounds correct, it is not necessarily true. This article explains in detail that even though there are some learning preferences there is no specific way that a student can learn more effectively. It also points out that when students know their learning style or learning preference they tend to gain confidence and put forth less effort to learn a concept therefore causing them to perform worse.
