Alicia Conerly has worked in education for over 13 years. She is a 2015 Shell Urban Science Educator Development Award recipient; 2016 Shell Lab Challenge Grand Prize Award recipient; and 2017 Mississippi Science Teachers Association Outstanding Informal Science Educator Award recipient. In 2017, she founded PUSH 4 Science Educational Services, LLC., and has served on several science award review panels, both statewide and nationally. She has also served as both a mentee and mentor for the Smithsonian in conjunction with Shell at their annual STEM Education Summit. She is also the first African American Administrator of Monticello Elementary School.

Science for All: Using the Textbook Effectively to Encourage Student Growth

This was an awesome article! It provided strategies that I once used in the classroom myself, as well as, those that I now encourage my teachers to use. The are all effective and produce excellent results when used with fidelity. The key is to use them with FIDELITY!!! They can be used across several other disciplines as well. Therefore, I would recommend this article and it it's resources to all grade levels because they can be tweaked to fit all.

This article was very informative. Working in a southern rural area, I am not sure if all of the resources provided would be feasible for low socioeconomic schools. The tool Diigo and the books provided would have to be purchased in order to get the full benefits of using them based on what the article intended. There is a free portion of Diigo, but it limits you tremendously. I did enjoy the concept and the case made for supplemental texts to textbooks.

This article is is AWESOME! I am still one of those old school educators who believes in giving homework. This article is proof of how valuable homework is. The added touch to the article was the missing homework email. I feel that teachers on all grade levels would benefit from this information.
