5E with real world engineering
This is article created one of the clearest paths for connecting science and engineering. Specifically, it integrated the Engineering Design Cycle into the 5E learning plan format. The engagement phase involved posing a problem and engineering a first solution, or a first water filter. Students then learn about the water cycle and revise their filters based on their learning. This use of modeling brings is a great example of ambitious science teaching. There are opportunities to tie this lesson to very real world contexts, and social studies connections make it even more powerful.
