Bridging the Gap
This article was extremely informative. In it the author discussed how literacy plays an important role in science. the article revealed different methods that he school uses to incorporate literacy and instruction amongst its students and the different outcomes of doing so. This specific elementary school in the article s primary ELL students who do not speak English. The teachers at this particular elementary school are eager to improve both their science and literacy instructional skills, learning to engage students in disciplinary literacy tasks. This has a direct positive effect doubt student academics and learning goals that the schools have set. Most of the students at the school have a language barrier that prevents them from being actively engaged in science projects and other subjects. It is because of this that they have a summer program summer program was designed to support rising students in grades 1 to 5 who did not meet end of the year benchmarks. All of these extra incentives put in place seem to be setting their students up for success in the future. The students seem to enjoy the activities and assignments put in place and they use Science as a mean to bridge the language gap between students and teachers.
