My NSTA / Peers / Riley Smith

Hello, my name is Riley Smith. I am currently a junior at Tennessee Tech University. Once I get my bachelor’s degree, I plan on finding a teaching job in my hometown of Crossville, TN. I hope that while I am teaching, I will be able to work on getting my master’s degree in library science. I decided to become a teacher for multiple reasons. For one, I am just one of many in my family who are teachers. Throughout my life, I have been able to see the good, bad, and ugly by watching my family members in action and while seeing it as a student. I also decided to become a teacher because of substitute teaching. When I turned 18, I became a substitute teacher in Crossville, TN. I have loved every single moment. I have subbed for grades K-8, special education, and even special area classes, also known as encore classes, and I truly have learned a lot. Through substitute teaching, I have been able to confirm how much I love interacting with and teaching students of all ages.
