This collection made by Melissa Reyes, is filled with diverse resources for elementary education topics regarding the environment. The collection is comprised of six resources. Five journal articles and one book chapter. The first journal article is, ""Clued In" to Their Environment"
by Marti Welch. This article regards the state of Florida and it is important for students to have relatable lessons. This article includes riddles which will really help the students stay engaged. The next resource is a book chapter "Changing Environment" by: Page Keeley and this article is about adaptation, as it probes students to reveal the ideas that they hold about individual organisms and how they tend to adopt in changing environments. Next journal article,
"Desert Survivors!" by Jessica Horton and Steve Friedenstab Is put in place in a game show styled way of public play which teaches students about the habitats that we can find in deserts. Next, we have "Science 101: How do insects help the environment?" by: Gary Hevel, this is about how insects play an important role in our environment. This journal article discusses the importance of insects and explains that our environment would not be able to function the way that it does now without them. Another journal article, "Teaching Through Trade Books: Adaptations for Survival" by Christine Anne Royce, includes different activities that are inspired by children's literature. This specific article is about how seeds are transported from one location to another. The idea of this article is that its goal is to allow elementary students to engage in a lot of critical thinking about how their environment can change based on location. Lastly, "The Early Years: Fostering Environmental Stewardship" by: Peggy Ashbrook, this is an article column That discusses scientific topics that are available to students from the grades pre-K to 2nd grade. It also focuses on bringing teacher awareness toward STEAM lessons as they allow for more exploration of a natural area and allows more room for creativity. Overall, this collection was composed Of many diverse resources.
