My NSTA / Peers / Malcolm Pringle

I've been curious about making sense of the natural world for as long as I can remember. An engineering undergraduate degree jumpstarted a lifelong fascination with volcanoes and plate tectonics, and helped me earn a scholarship to study volcanoes in Germany, and then a PhD from the University of Hawaii. A research career managing geochronology labs took me to the likes of the USGS Menlo Park (CA), Free University Amsterdam, Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and MIT, and on research expeditions to volcanic islands and seamounts in each of the world’s major oceans. For 15 years I’ve shared my passion for the authentic work of science in the K-12 classroom -- getting kids themselves to ask questions, plan investigations, build explanations, design solutions. I was drawn to Tessellations and its talented community to help cultivate the next generation of scientists and engineers, so they might discover solutions to the challenges that have eluded my generation’s best efforts so far.
