A hypothesis is something I determine before an experiment based on prior knowledge and research of what I expect the outcome to be. I would say a prediction is close but I don't have to have as much support for my hypothesis, this could be more of an educated guess.
A Claim is based on the results of the experiment. It can answer the hypothesis but it is based solely on the data collected.

While it can be more challenging to do teach with out a book, I found it kind of liberating. I found many texts and documents that I like more then the books I have now. As I move to a more flipped classroom I will probably go back to those texts since I won't need to print them as much as I use to. As long as some of the texts the students are reading are like a text book I feel you still prep...

Could you do something with probe ware where you use a closed environment and have varying amounts of CO2 and see what happens to the pH of water in the environment. Might not want to leave the CO2 probe in the container the whole time because they use CO2 to measure I believe.
