Probing: Is it Matter or Not?

This article walks through what it's like to question-probe young students, without judgement, to see what their understanding of matter is. It's important as educators to limit correcting students "misconceptions" in the moment, and instead see what evidence is leading to their conclusions - all while exploring deeply in learning that exposes matter really is. I liked this article because it provides a good set of ideas to try in young classrooms. It also shed light on why having critical thinking conversations are important to initiate while students are figuring things out at an early stage because it will prepare them for high school and prevent lacking knowledge of significant concepts down the road.

Poetry "Matters" too!

This is such a great literacy tool in the science classroom. The poem mentioned in this resource is grade "A" material that teachers can provide physical materials for students to engage with while reading. Additionally, the "take 5" model referenced in the resource provides interactive elements for students to see, hear, and collaborate, while learning more about states of matter. It's such a simple set things that can be done in the classroom without extra materials.
