Echoes Science of My Youth
The goals emphasized in this book echo very closely what made me love science in my own childhood--curiosity and a love of exploring the world around me--and investigates how to bring these qualities out in students in higher grade levels. The SIR program that this excerpt discusses is a formalized way to bring this curiosity and exploration into a classroom, to make the childhood curiosity all students possess be transformed into a driving force to learn about and fall in love with science as a growing learner. As a pre-service teacher, having the methods and examples of student learning offers great inspiration for how I would want to structure my own classroom. While students will require help to build their knowledge base, seeking opportunities for students to drive the learning is critical to keeping them engaged and in love with the sciences. This book will be a great source of inspiration for anyone seeking to cultivate an effective project based science classroom!
