I'm so glad you like the idea! That is so awesome that the class in your example sold cans and bought solar panels. That is a real change that the class initiated in their school. The awesome thing about these projects is that they can lead to such bigger things!

I am trying to come up with a cohesive project based unit plan about upcycling. I want the students to be thinking about how they can help the community by upcycling instead of throwing everything away. Getting started, they would be doing some research about where our trash eventually ends up, and recording data about what common items are thrown away regularly at home and at school. Making Sense of Data

Meaningful data collecting

This article, as noticed in the title is about having students collect and understand their data. The article lists certain projects that would be great for data collecting such as a 5 week moon observation and plant growth observation. Within these projects, the students interpret and analyze their own data, ask questions, and ultimately behave like scientistists. This article is helpful to teacher who want to make data collecting more meaningful.

Great info

I really enjoyed this article, because the topics covered within are short, straight to the point, and exactly what I was looks for. The topics of this article include: Statistics on water bottle usage, effects of water bottles on the environment, and a solution for change. This is a great article to read to just grab some basic knowledge that will lead to further, more specific questions and research!
