The Science Project Portfolio provides a detailed, step by step breakdown to shift the traditional Science Fair project into a continuous formative assessment to develop the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices. This article provides weekly breakdown of concepts and student tasks, printable resources to support each of these tasks and rubrics to assess. Milestones of project progress are peer-reviewed and detailed check-lists are provided to facilitate this, as well. This portfolio adaptation to the traditional process would be useful for Distance Learning, where pieces of the project can be addressed each week in a virtual class. This would also be helpful in scaffolding projects for SPED or ELL students.
NSTA Press produces classroom-ready activities, hands-on approaches to inquiry, relevant professional development, the latest scientific education news and research, assessment and standards-based instruction.
