Does the Type of Wire Make a Difference in an Electromagnet?

by: Page Keeley and Rand Harrington

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about electromagnets. The probe is designed to reveal whether students recognize that an electromagnetic effect can pass through an insulated wire. This probe is best used with middle and high school students once they have a basic concept of an electromagnet. A materials list, teacher notes, standards, assessment, safety notes, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
