This is a really rich activity. I like that students are actively involved in making the scale and that modern dates are also incorporated into the activity. One would need to edit some of the modern dates as the number of years is incorrect. The authors even have the students include their own birthdays—a nice touch. This would be useful for a middle school physical science class, a high school Earth Science course, or a high school Biology course.

This provides a dual lesson, a review of measuring length and in geologic time to construct at least two different timelines - one to model geologic time and one to show events in geologic time (on a clothesline). I like the reflection questions for the activity and the directions are very clear but I would rather for the human related events they had just provided the year they occured and not the number of years in the past (which are out of date and need to be revised). Students could easily fill that information in yearly, instead of having to retype it. Othter than that small thing that whiteout can fix, a good geotime activity.
