Static Swing

by: Michael Horton

This activity is inquiry-based in that students will perform the activity before they formally learn about how objects can become charged with static electricity (induction, contact, etc.). This will allow the teacher to refer to this activity when teaching the concept in class. Students will have the same background knowledge and experiences and will have an activity on which to “hang” their knowledge about charging objects with static electricity. Students also should have a basic idea of “complete circuits” from middle school. Students will be guided to understanding a series of questions.
