I really like the activities presented in this book chapter. The instructions are clear and concise for the lab, and the reading material and student worksheets are provided. My only concern is the requirement for the use of microscopes. Not all schools would have microscopes available for student use. I would suggest the use of magnified colored pictures of these cells if microscopes are not available. The use of pictures would not provide the same opportunities using a microscope would provide, but it would allow students to complete the activities in a meaningful and engaging manner still. I especially liked the use of "claims and evidence" at the end of the activity. I would suggest adding "reasoning" - encouraging students to write a complete statement to justify their response. I highly recommend this book chapter and lesson.
