This chapter makes several general suggestions to teams charged with developing beginning teacher assistance programs (BTAPs), then describes four specific types of needs assessment carried out in effective BTPAs—environmental needs assessment, beginning teachers' needs assessment, mentor needs assessment, and resource needs assessment. Examples of instruments used to gather needs assessment data and suggestions for data analysis are included in the chapter.
