The probe asks students to apply the same scale of the Sun and Earth size to the distance away. I understand that students should realize that while the planets and sun are large objects in our Solar System, the distance between them is even greater. I think my issue is that I have students look at the Solar System as a whole when creating scale, so I have them use to different scales to keep things manageable in the space that I have. I could have students look at just the Earth and Sun as an introductory activity with one scale and discuss the idea of multiple scales with the model that I have them construct.
