This article is a wake up call for teachers with classrooms housed in older buildings. The author had been award a TAPESTRY grant to teach her students about lead safety. She was surprised to discover that the newly renovated school tested positively for the element. As a result of the grant and the incorporation of lead safety education at her school, her students and the community were made aware of this potential safety threat. This is an excellent article to see how a teacher utilized the resources from a TAPESTRY grant to educate a whole community. Through the project, her students saw first hand how what they were learning in science class connected to issues in their own lives.
