Using science journals is a common practice in many grades from third and up into middle school. (I am not sure if it is used in high schools.) This article is especially useful for the person who wishes to use journals for the first time. The article includes logistics as well as prompts and assessing student entries. In my opinion this article would serve as a great read for the preservice teacher who wants to know more about the how and the why of science journaling.

As a college student studying to become a teacher, I found this journal extremely helpful. Pretty soon I will have to come up with all sorts of procedures in my classroom; especially for science since it's my weakest area of content knowledge. I like how this article mentioned science notebooks and how to set them up as well as a sample of a rubric. This was a good source of beginning information for me and I bet other teachers-in-training would appreciate it as well!
