Genetic recombination is a hard concept for many high school students to grasp. I like this activity because it actively involves the students. Not only is genetic recombination modeled at a cellular level, but the results of the phenotype of the entire organism is also shown. We are done studying the cell cycle this year. I am going to use this activity next year with my biology classes.

I like how this activity takes students through demonstrating each stage of meiosis to understanding how the traits combine during fertilization. I think it will be great. I will modify it a little for my 7th graders, but overall I think it will work well to help them understand the importance of meiosis for genetics.
