Every year NSTA in partnership with the Children's Book Council work together to find the very best trade books that can be used in K-12 science education. There are many books nominated but only the best are selected.
The books are chosen first and foremost on their accuracy of science content. Another criteria is creativity and how well they portray science practices.
A book that is chosen as one of these special books not only meets all the mentioned criteria goes beyond it . All of these books will entice the reader into its pages as well engage the reader. Some of these books will provoke inquiry, while others may help to develop a future scientist.
I highly recommend you check this list out and consider adding them to your science units.

With all of the talk about Science needing to increase it's role in "Reading in the Content Area", this article came out at just the right time. It lists quite a few trade books that are already evaluated for what they contain in a variety of science subject areas. This article can save a teacher quite a bit of time if they are wanting to find a quality book to introduce into their curriculum. It also shows how a teacher can add a personal favorite book to the growing list. I recommend this article to any teachers wanting to find some relevant and interesting books for their students.
