While browsing the Learning Center today, I came across this little gem. I was looking for an inquiry lab that demonstrated how oscillating bodies behaved. The lessons outlined in this article were perfect for my needs. By starting with a field trip to a local park. students get excited about learning about a potentially dry subject. Next, students manipulated several variables to test their hypothesis. Then they analyzed their data. and presented their findings to the class. For what more could I have asked! It was also a convenience to have the grading rubrics included.

Though the math was a little over my head and more than I needed, the concepts could easily be used in 5th grade. The lab focused on students testing and discovering what causes a pendulum to have higher frequency. I will use this in my classroom with a few modifications to make it age appropriate.
