One summer we visited a number of science labs as a part of a workshop I was attending. At each lab we asked "what was the most important course you took in high school?" and in every case they said English - not Science, English. Why? we asked and they said the ability to communicate was one of the most important skills in science. This article describes a college course in how to communicate via writing, but High School and possibly Middle School Science Teachers should take note - it is not just for CCSS we emphasize the LA skills, they will need them to communicate their scientific discoveries if they become working scientists. Communications is key.
