This article is one of the best I have read on the new standards. It takes time to read and truly digest. There is so much good information here, that it’s mind boggling. I appreciate the detail Wysession has put into outlining the expectations for Science at all three levels, elementary, middle and high school in terms of Earth and Space Science. Of particular interest was the “Challenges” section. Clearly identified are some of the obstacles teachers may face as the new standards are implemented. By naming these challenges, we are given a glimpse of what we need to do to overcome them and recognize “This will all require significant professional development.”
NSTA Press produces classroom-ready activities, hands-on approaches to inquiry, relevant professional development, the latest scientific education news and research, assessment and standards-based instruction.
