The author describes in detail a year-long project based learning lesson on water quality and salmon. Although the project is site-specific, the detail provided could be modified to test water quality in any nearby stream. And the use of "research-buddies" from the junior high was a good idea for both the 3rd graders involved with the study and the 7th graders who assisted them and probably used the data collected for their own research. Unfortunately, all links to the program website are inactive for details on the lessons or for updates. One website http://www.bgsd.k12.wa.us/hml/jr_cam/macros/resources.html provides some of the reference lesson information listed. But for other lessons they list as being helpful, anyone wanting to do this activity will have to contact the author or school directly or look up their own.
