Writing is critical to developing understanding of science concepts. Teachers need to scaffold students during the writing process in order to develop writing and to avoid misconceptions. This article does an excellent job using the life cycle of the mealworm to explain the IMSCI model in science (Inquiry, Modeling, Sharing, Collaborative, and Independent). This model could easily be adapted to other science concepts.
