High school physics students from Littleton, New Hampshire, conducted experiments in an effort to use alternative energy to power a sidewalk heating system by participating in a program that provides grants to high schools to invent something that addresses a town or school need. Not only did this project benefit the students and citizens of Littleton, it provided a vehicle for teaching applied physics concepts such as energy and its many forms, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism.
