The author presents this as an article on "scientific method" (and this does show an empirical method used by scientists). However, so much energy is expended working on the data analyses portions of the lesson and explaining aspects of graphing, that I am not sure that students would have time to also pick up the key features of the gas laws without additional explicit instruction to refocus them on the purpose, and including that is not part of this article's lesson structure. Students are passive observers throughout this lesson following directions and getting predictable answers (which is good in an empiric method if they understand the why). A good lesson for an honors or AP class short on time or equipment but a better lesson would have found a way to include student manipulation of equipment and data.
