We are constantly being bombarded with the statistics that our kids are not making the grade, and we need to improve our instruction. But before we can understand the gravity of the situation, we need to compare our expectations with our international competition. This article was written in 2007, and covers 2003 data. I think we need an update! Is the disparity increasing (I personally think so, especially after teaching geometry this year) but we need the information that shows how we compare, with longitudinal data, to make the case as state and local budgets shrink!
