Virtually everything we use—from the food we eat to the cars we drive—is produced from the Earth’s rock and mineral resources. As our society becomes more urbanized, students have fewer opportunities to interact with the Earth. As a result, students tend to believe that consumer goods simply appear on store shelves. We have lost sight of the link between the Earth’s rock and mineral resources and the consumer goods on which we depend. This article highlights the uses of rock and mineral resources in our daily lives.
