In a nifty little inquiry easily done in a classroom setting, the author an inquiry experiment that could be designed and developed in a high school classroom, and perhaps even a middle school.setting. What I liked about this experiment is that the concept of controls in experimentation is carefully included in the design. So many environmental experiments are lax in the design of experimental controls and measurement. As an inquiry, the exact procedure is not included, nor should it be. The design of the experiment should reflect the ideas of the students. The format of this activity allows them the structure, while encouraging creativity in the design.
