The author asks students to apply biology concepts to popular movies to explain how the concepts effect the conflicts and resolutions. It is a rather interesting project, I am not sure I agree with the rigor of the final assessment but the project itself is a wonderful way of getting students to realize that science is a part of daily life (even if the day is on an alien planet!). While this was written for a college course for non-majors, I think that it could be modified as a project for students in advanced high school biology classes as well (especially if the assessment is modified as well as the directions). Very creative way to motivate students to learn!

This article was a summary of an instructors attempt to teach science through movies to non-science major college students. There are some good examples of scientific topics discussed but would need some adaptation for secondary school use.
