I really enjoyed reading this article. I have used red worms for some time in classrooms of all ages, and they are fabulous live subjects. In this article, the author really gets the students to think about the characteristics of the worms, their habitat, and place in the environment. Great hook activity too. Multidisciplinary, with good resources and a SciLink. Assessment also included.

While written for the elementary grades, most of the activities discussed in this article would be appropriate at any grade level. I intend to use some of the activities in my environmental science unit. I already have a worm compost bin started, so the inquiry based activities could help further engage student interest wanting to know more about worms.
