Mentoring, like teaching, demands skills. Mentors need to learn how to best develop a mentee’s professional growth. This goes far beyond the idea of emotional support that many generic mentoring programs advocate. The content-specific mentoring that this mentoring program emphasizes is educative mentoring and requires mentors to think seriously about the method of teaching they want novices to learn and what that teaching entails. During this session, mentors learn mentoring strategies and practices to help them be effective in their new role.
