Our physical science department is looking for good 2D motions simulation programs for students. In the past, one of our fellow teachers used a program from Activ Physics from the old Netscape browser. She claimed this was an amazing tool for students that is no longer available. We looked at PHET, Physics classroom but we are not finding a program that students can manipulate that is engaging and effective for the 9th grade level. Any ideas?
Michael, Can you be more specific about what phenomena or concept(s) you are investigating with the simulation? If your school uses NGSS, if you go to the NGSS@NSTA website, click on standards, then school, then choose a group you are interested in and scroll down to the bottom of the page there will be curated resources specific to that standard. Many of these are simulations, some are labs, some are phenomena that can be used for the topic. The review of the resource has teacher tips for how to align it to three dimensional teaching and how to use it in the classroom including tips on assessment if no assessment is included in the online resource.
Take a look at "Physics Studio" - it is meant for 9/10 graders and includes motion (Other topics are waves, electricity, atomic physics, energy, states of matter, electromagnetism). Links are at http://www.mazalearn.com
