Hello everyone, welcome to my forum. I am Larissa Leonel, a senior at Monmouth University. I am currently taking the science course ED-361/562. As a new teacher, I would like some advice and resources that could help me create fun and engaging educational science activities for my future classroom. I know that some students may feel that science lessons can be dull if we are just reading off the textbooks, and having whole group discussion the whole time. I believe that coming up with creative science projects will keep my students engaged when learning about science. Thank you!

Hi Larissa. I have also struggled with the daunting task of sifting through resources to find engaging activities for my students. I am not sure which grade level you will teach, but here are some resources that I find useful for my high school students:

HHMI Biointeractive (Lessons and Simulations) https://www.biointeractive.org/classroom-resources

Digital Teaching Boxes from Exploratorium  https://www.exploratorium.edu/education/teacher-institute/digital-teaching-boxes

Hudson Alpha iCell Simulation (takes a moment to load so be patient :) https://icell.hudsonalpha.org/icell.html

I hope these give you a place to start!

Thank you Laura Taylor for such great suggestions in interactive biology lessons. As a pre-service teacher, these will be great resources in my future lesson plans and help me to create a fun and engaging classroom while student teaching next spring!
