I am a student teacher and am having difficulties finding an actively engaging way to teach weather and climate. Any Ideas or links would be greatly appreicated!!

Well I found a few neat Ideas but I think to be more specific what resources are out there with historical climate data I think this might be a great place to start. We have been covering dew points, fronts, and using the weather serviace to familiarize but I feel we are ready for a broader view, Climate!

Hi Marie,
What grade level do you teach? NSTA has plenty of resources you can use to incorporate historical data into a climate lesson. You can also go to http://www.nws.noaa.gov/pa/climate_data.php for instructions on how to find all kinds of historical data from NOAA.
Let us know what grade level you teach and we'll find more resources for you. You can also do an advanced search in the Learning Center. Just type a key word in and then filter by grade level and subject on the left side of your browser.

Congratulations on embarking on your new career in teaching (and for finding NSTA :) )!
Another great resource for teaching weather is the GLOBE program. This program is a joint venture between the NSF, NOAA, and NASA. As Kendra noted, NSTA also has many excellent resources for teaching about weather. I've attached a collection of ideas I created to teach a 3rd weather unit. While these resources may not work for your grade level, it will at least give you an idea of some of the resources available in the NSTA learning center.

Hi Marie,
As Maureen mentioned, the GLOBE site is great for climate information. If you are teaching lower elementary be sure to go to http://globe.gov/k-4 which has all kinds of information, lesson plans, free pictures books to download and more for elementary grades. Also at the bottom of the page are four more links to weather websites. This material can easily be adapted to higher grades.
