The Golgi apparatus is part of the membrane mosaic model. It's function is kind of like the UPS store. It packages and ships proteins made in the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum and / or the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum. Depending upon the cell, there can be many Golgi or a few. Hope this helps.
