One misconception I've always had was that the moon did not rotate. However, I just found out the other day that it does! Wow! To tackle misconceptions, address them as early on as possible. We don't want our kids growing up thinking one thing, then learning something completely different when they become older!

Try giving your students the opportunity to choose from pile of animals. Have the student draw the animal or maybe have them draw their favorite animal and describe what that animals needs to survive.

If you want to make your science lesson more engaging, make sure you incorporate an activity into your lesson that will get your kids moving, whether they are cutting, glueing, coloring, or building something. I've learned that my second graders really enjoy activities that they have to use some sort of manipulation. It keeps them engaged and interested. The more they have to do, the better.
