Formative Assessment Probes: Needs of Seeds
This article establishes a need for formative assessment probes to discover misconceptions students may have about science concepts. In this particular article, Page Keeley brings out some miconceptuons about what seeds need to sprout. She explains that elementary students confuse the needs of seeds with the needs of plants and uses a Justified List probe to uncover the misconceptions.The probe results are used to specifically tailor her lesson around the misconceptions, thereby extending and deepening the students' learning. The probe additionally indicates the depth of the students' investigative thinking.
