We are working on a workshop plan for kindergartners. One of our team members wants to discuss photosynthesis. Is there a way to explain this on a very basic level or should we exclude this topic for discussion?

The Lorax by Dr. Seuss offers many opportunities to discuss science topics. In reference to a food chain, after reading the story to the class, or having the students take turns reading the text, or watching a YouTube narrative of the book, have students draw a food chain for the ecosystem in The Lorax. Why did the animals have to leave?

I was able to use the Lorax for a kindergarten workshop. I used it as an introduction to our workshop on trees. By selecting only the necessary pages to read to the group I was able to develop a conversation regarding the effects that losing all our trees would have. It was exciting to see how the students were able to connect the story to real-life examples.
