I had my students do centers where they had a recording sheet answering questions.
Mechanical Energy- wind-up toys
Light energy- Your school might have solar powered toys, or you can always use UV changing beads

I know that others used crayons with the blow dryer as a way of explaining heat. The only thing is that it works better and faster when you use two blow dryers.
