Recently I have not had much science experience. In university I took an environmental class that I really enjoyed, but there were no labs so I did not actually do any experiments. I also took a geology class where we had labs, but I found it very dry. Even in high school I had little science experience. I took chemistry, but I don’t remember any experiments…just a lot of formulas.
My favourite science experience was in grade 8 when I entered a citywide DNA science fair. I wrote an essay on DNA and why I would like to do DNA fingerprinting, and out of all the entries myself and four other Jr. High students were chosen to go to the finals. I actually went to a lab and with a scientist did DNA fingerprints of the samples I collected from family and friends. I ended up winning 3rd place.
It may seem like I’m bragging, but I’m not…well, maybe a little. My point is that this was an extremely positive experience from my childhood. I may not be as scientifically minded as I was back the

The Wonder of Worms

Wonderful way to teach worms!
I thought this was an excellent article on how to teach kindergartens about worms. It covers the 5e's and brings nature into the classroom. My favourite is the gummy worm activity. I was told of a kindergarten class that did vermicomposting and the students loved showing off their worms and giving them yummy food like banana peels. The teacher eventually had to to make a "feeding plan" so the worms weren't overfeed.
