Learning about our natural world is a continuing source of fun and excitement for me. I have taught middle and high school science (mostly chemistry and physics) as well as math in rural southwest Florida. I retired from Florida Gulf Coast University in January 2022, but I continue working with teachers and children in my rural Southwest Florida community.

An interesting question followed by activities to answer the question(s) is a great way to engage students. Children love science activities they can relate to. If you watch very young children, they are often involved in investigating and questioning their environment.

Safety is important in all aspects of students’ lives. What they learn about being safe in the classroom should carry over into their everyday lives at home, on the playground, and beyond.
